Contest Objectives

At the heart of GCS competitions is a profound understanding of how children learn. We recognize that every child is a curious, active explorer with unique interests and abilities. True learning happens when they construct meaning for themselves—especially in mathematics.

Participating in a GCS competition transforms this natural approach into an empowering experience. It forges essential connections between the concrete, pictorial, and symbolic layers of math, building deep, intuitive understanding.

We champion creative and divergent thinking. Our competitions provide a dynamic space where students discover that problems can be solved in multiple valid ways, and that their unique thought process is not just accepted it’s celebrated.

Syllabus Aims

Our curriculum is designed to empower students to:

  • Build a strong, practical foundation in mathematics for daily life and future learning.

Participation & Registration Overview

Eligibility
The competition is open to all students from Grade Pre-Level through Grade 10.

Contest Location
The contest will be conveniently administered at each participant’s own school.

Registration Fee
The fee to participate is Rs. 1,000/- per contest, per student.

 

Course Outline

Sprout (Mont, PG, Nursery, KG)

Pre-Number Skills: Matching, sorting, and comparing (size, length, quantity). Shapes & Colors: Identify basic 2D shapes and primary colors. Patterns: Create and extend simple patterns (AB, AAB). Position & Space: Understand positional words (in/out, over/under). Number Foundation: Rote count (1-20), count objects, recognize numerals 0-10. Readiness: Develop number writing skills and grasp sequence terms (first, next, last).

 

Explorer (Grade 1 & 2):

Students build a mathematical foundation through number concepts, basic addition and subtraction, practical skills with money and time, and an introduction to shapes and simple fractions (½, ¼).

Challenger (Grade 3 & 4):

Students expand their skills with place value, all four arithmetic operations, and applying them to money, fractions, and decimals. They are also introduced to geometry, including perimeter, area, and types of angles.

Contender (Grade 5 & 6):

Students advance to more complex operations with factors, multiples, fractions, and decimals. They explore percentages, foundational algebra, and calculate the volume of cubes and cuboids, building strong pre-algebraic reasoning.

Competitor (Grade 7 & 8):

Students expand their mathematical reasoning through advanced concepts, including rational numbers, data interpretation (mean, median, mode), and proportional reasoning. They explore squares, roots, algebraic expressions, exponents, polygon areas, and direct/inverse proportion building a strong foundation for higher-level mathematics.

Achiever Level (Grades 9 & 10)

Students engage with advanced mathematical foundations, mastering core algebraic, geometric, and statistical concepts essential for higher-level study.

  • Algebra: Real numbers, polynomials, linear & quadratic equations, matrices.
  • Geometry: Lines & angles; surface area and volume of cubes, cuboids, and spheres.
  • Trigonometry & Advanced Functions: Trigonometric ratios, exponential and logarithmic functions.
  • Statistics: Calculating mean, median, and mode for grouped data.

Paper Pattern

The contests would comprise of multiple-choice questions only. The participants will have to select one best answer out of four options given. Every correct answer would earn five points whereas for every wrong answer ONE point would be deducted. Level-wise further details about paper pattern can be had as below.
